This British-made amplifier was made in the 1950s to amplify tape recorders and record players (note the “Gram” input jack, for “gramophone”); however, they were also capable of being used as guitar amplifiers, notably by Paul McCartney and Dave Davies in the early days of the Beatles and Kinks respectively. Dave Davies allegedly obtained his trademark guitar distortion on “You Really Got Me” by taking a razor blade to the speaker of his Elpico amplifier.
