Rickenbacker Model 3000

1976

Beginning in late 1975, a new style of bass was introduced called the 3000 series. Originally designed as a low-priced, economical, student model, the 3000 was radically different than the Rickenbacker bass designs that came before it. It featured a short-scale (30") one-piece bolt-on neck with dot fretboard markers, a solid unbound slab body with a Telecaster-like shape, a single high-gain hum-canceling pickup, 21 frets, two controls knobs (volume and tone), and an unlacquered fingerboard. This model generally has a black pickguard and black plexi truss rod cover. Production was short-lived, with few produced after 1976, though this model has recently gained in popularity.
