In the 1970s, Rickenbacker's line of basses - specifically, the model 4001 - was in great demand and accounted for much of the company's production during that time. The model 480 was Rickenbacker's attempt to appeal to guitarists with a bass-shaped guitar and was one of the first Rickenbacker guitars with a bolt-on neck.
